New Theater Set to Open this Spring

-Araceli Flores

After 12 years of discussing and waiting for a performing arts center on the PVHS campus, the dream has come to a fruition. On Friday morning, SMJUHSD board members toured a nearly completed project. With the ability to hold 298 attendees, the new center will have not only the theater, but also the three classrooms. Five lucky drama students here at PVHS got the chance to tour inside the new theater. The construction of the theater is said to be done by spring of 2017. Visual performing arts students are excited for the project to be completed so they can act their hearts out. The choir students may feel a lot of pressure because they will be the first group to ever perform. Mr. Hernandez says he may bring back alumni students for a huge, grand opening concert! Everyone at PVHS is very excited!

"I love it, it's pretty great. It’s so exciting that we're going to have our own theater. SM has their theater, Nipomo has their theater and we ain't got one, but we're going to get one and that's really exciting for me. Now we can do bigger shows, boom! We can do

“Heck yeah I’m excited! I’m super excited for the new theater. I’m looking forward to performing on stage and maybe doing back stage work because that’s my thing.” –Tiara Lewis (12)

“I feel really excited! I’m super happy! I’m looking forward to being able to perform on an actual stage and not in a classroom. We’re opening the theater with a show and it’s going to be called “School of Rock” the musical. It’s going to be very exciting!” –Joe Madrigal (12)

"The Lion King". You can't do "The Lion King" in that little room, like come on! And you can't do a big musical in that little room that's why we don't do musicals that often, I think. It makes me sad because I'm a musical girl, but we can't do them because the room is so small. I don't mean to brag, but I was the first one to sing on that stage. I got goosebumps because the space is so big and so beautiful! I love it! Did I mention I was the first one to sing? I'm really proud of that!" –Daniel Geiger (11)

Make-up Tests and Makeup Tips at PVHS

The Cosmetology Club has a new and exciting activity: Workshop Wednesdays. Every other week they hold a workshop giving tips about brows, eyeliner etc. Last Wednesday, there was a workshop held on contouring, which has to do with manipulating shade and light on your face to enhance or change your face shape all together. “The thing I love about contouring is sometimes I hate my nose shape, so once in a while I could just basically mold a new one,” said President Renzo Pulido (12). “When it comes to makeup though, I don’t think the point of it is to be a new person. Makeup enhances your beautiful features and your face is basically a canvas, don’t ever change the canvas.” Although the class is not full of official makeup artists, they are all talented. The Cosmetology Club meets Wednesdays in Ms. Burke’s room.

"It’s my first year playing golf. My score was a 67. I don’t really like golf but I play so that I could be a triathlete." -Jenessa Garcia (10)

"I've played golf for about a year now. In my opinion golf is better because you don’t have to run, all you’re doing is walking. It’s not like basketball."
