Panthers Strut Their Stuff Down Main St.

The Varsity Panthers were put to the test Friday night, fighting hard to keep their lead against the Saints right up to the very end. With the crowd chanting, the stadiums were vibrating and the pressure was on. The rivalry between the two schools was thrilling. The great amount of spirit within the game was chilling; it was one of the closest games in the history of their rivalry.

The game began with a touchdown by the Panthers; however, it didn’t count. Shortly after the Saints made a field goal making the score

3-0. Michael Bourbon, #3, scored a 5-yard touchdown after our team ran 46 yards. Kicking 49-yards before half time, Edgar Zacarias made the field goal. Unfortunately, Saints made a touchdown in the last 3 minutes, closing the game with Panthers still in the lead of 13-10. With our Panther Pride, we will always have the heart to succeed and believe. Teal and black is where it's at.

We protected our continuous victory streak against our rivals. They might’ve had lots of pride, but suffice to say, it did no damage to our Panthers' Pride or win.  Our Varsity Panthers still lay undefeated from following the rule of the paw. Not only did we win, but our panthers were also the loudest with spirit and cheering. Overall, it’s an amazing, old rivalry that’s lead to our Panthers leaving the field gleaming with sweat and success.  Keep it clean, keep it classy, keep it Pioneer Valley.

“SM wishes they had as much pride as PV. Santa Maria Saints? More Like Santa Maria Snakes!” Jocelyn Chesnas (12)

“In general, I think it’s probably the greatest rivalry in the Valley. It all comes down to the football players and their mentality… And I’m just here to hype up the crowd."

-Cristian Cardenas (12)

“I think that the school pride here is extremely sensational, and it’s great that our school comes together as one and as a family.” -Marcus Riconose (12)

.“I feel like it shouldn't have been that close. It should have been a blowout, but a win is a win. We played hard and came out on top as expected.”

JV Football Demolishes Saints 49-0 in Main Street Classic

Last Friday, our Junior Varsity Football team went to Santa Maria High in the annual non-league Main Street Classic. Ever since Pioneer has opened in 2004, the two schools have held a cross town rivalry. The Saints fought hard, but the Panthers came out in a landslide victory.

We were able to get an interview with Juan Guzman (11):

PT: How did the team prepare for today's game?

Juan: Over the past week, we had a lot of conditioning, we practiced hard, and the coaching by Monteiro, Stevie, Ernie, Jaime, Mike, and coach Watson were all outstanding. We put in the hours and are pleased with the outcome of the game.

PT: How do you feel about Santa Maria High as a rival team?

Juan: They were a hard opponent, they put up a good fight, but we came out on top.

PT: Were you expecting such a huge win?

Juan: Absolutely. We put in a lot of hours both on and off the field in preparation for this game, and all of the work with the football family paid off.

Friday’s Panther Pride Rally Paves Way for Wins

Our school is full of so many Panthers that show their school spirit to support our wonderful football teams. Friday was full of many laughs and joyous cheers with the student council officers doing the rally and having a race between all four classes. The seniors took first place and the sophomores in second place, having the freshman take the juniors out of the game. Everyone at the rally had so much fun. They showed their support and cheered on the football teams. Team captain of the Varsity football team got on stage and gave some words out to everyone and his team to come support them at the game. They encouraged everyone show all their school spirit. He gave confidence to everyone that they were going to win. The cheerleaders performed the 8 count to show who the Panthers are and show everyone that Pioneer Valley High School has school spirit.
