Autumn is Falling
Drops of autumn sprinkle across the sky.
Soft cool kisses graze the cheeks of summer as
The warm glow of orange and red
Wave the tired sun for an early goodnight.
Tender necks buried against
Layers of scarves as collars stand up.
Toes hide beneath
Knitted socks and leather boots.
All loose limbs dance under
The cool glow of the moonlight.
Trees prepare for their frosty slumber,
Releasing their final hot breaths
Leaving warm ghosts to wander the brisk air.
Stiff branches unclasp fists full of color
As wisps of brittle leaves crunch against
The raw, untouched earth.
The nippy air whispers strings of light.
They whisper strings of fall.

Club Spotlight: Ballet Folklorico
-Cacilda Ramirez
Ballet Folklorico is a club that is based on a specific style of Hispanic dancing. Club members train very hard 5 days a week to learn each step. The training is so physically demanding, it’s more like a sport with lots of rules and expectations that every person has to meet. The teacher this year will be Mr. Hoyos; he comes from Santa Maria HS and has taught for 7 years. He will be in charge of training the students and making sure they put on a great performance.
“It's my first year at PV. The students will be competing and dancing. They will be having a lot of fun but it will be a lot of work. They will definitely sweat. Practice is at least 2 hours and almost every day. I feel like it creates a family. They will perform in state championships, and this year, the costumes and everything will be free. I will teach you to be the best of the best. It's like a sport. If you don't come to practice, you won't perform no matter what.” -Mr. Hoyos
“I want to join it because it's something new to me. It's my first year joining Ballet Folklorico. I think the freshmen are great. They are leading the future of the club.” -Guadalupe Peña (12)
“I've been in it for four years now. I like it because it's part of my Mexican culture and it's enjoyable.”
-Jennifer Sanchez
“It's my first year joining Ballet Folklorico. I joined it because my brother was in it last year. I think I'm going to do good because I'm a fast learner.” -Jacob Rubio (9)
“I've done this for one year. I joined Ballet Folklorico because I like dancing. I think that the freshmen have a lot to learn.” -Stephan Esparza (12)
Uber App Review
Uber is a transportation app that lets you get a driver to drive you places you want to go! It is a taxi service that is used on your phone to locate Uber drivers in your area. It is also a cheaper alternative to a taxi in Santa Maria for people who can’t drive. The drivers also get to you in a good amount of time and can get to you even faster in bigger cities where there are an abundance of Uber drivers. Uber is also one of the better and well known transportation services when compared to others. The only negative thing about Uber is that anyone can become an Uber driver and that means very inexperienced drivers may drive you. Overall, Uber is a decent app if you have somewhere to be but with no way to get there.
"I've used Uber twice and I got the same driver who was pretty rude. She was on her phone while driving, too. It wasn’t a good experience. I don’t know if I'd use Uber again." -Daniella Gonzalez (12)
"I used Uber a lot during the summer with my friends. The drivers were really nice and I always thought that all of them drove new cars because it was just that clean. I even had an Uber driver offer food, candy and waters while getting a ride. The price of it is pretty fair and it saves you time and stress because it tells you when they will be at your location to pick you up and just makes commuting a whole lot easier." - David Lopez (12)
“I use Uber once a month when I don’t have a ride to a place I want to go or be at. I can’t say I’ve had a bad experience with it yet; everything’s been fine so far.”
–Cesar Pedraza (11)
I use it a lot, but I might stop since I’m getting my license soon. I had one bad Uber driver a while ago. I think he might’ve been on something since he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings.”
