Lorenz & Friends go on Safari

In order to gear up for the upcoming Main Street Classic football game, (Pioneer v. Santa Maria) PVHS is having its annual “Santa Maria” Spirit Week! To kick things off, Tuesday’s spirit day was Safari. Students dressed up in green, khaki, and sun hats, ready for any adventure in the harsh desert. The following days will be Under the Sea (dress in blue) America Day (your best patriotic gear) and finally Panther Pride Day. Show your school spirit by dressing up, and don’t forget to show up to the game at Santa Maria High this Friday night!

2018 HOCO Skit is Underway

Juniors were eager to attend the first meeting for their homecoming skit. You can definitely expect it to be better than any other skit the class of 2018 has done. Now I can’t spill too much information but I will say they have a fun show planned. More dances and more silliness awaits. And of course what would be a homecoming skit without a little bit of cheesiness? I bet all our classes have something great planned. All we can do now is wait in excitement until the homecoming rally. Good luck to all our classes!

“I expect this year’s homecoming skit to be more exciting and a lot more entertaining than anything we’ve done before.”  - Ashley Gutierrez, Class President 2018

James Got Game!

Unfortunately our Varsity Water Polo team has suffered major setbacks throughout the beginning of the season, but is working to fix the problems and improve overall. Yesterday afternoon, our team faced off against Saint Joe’s. In the end of the first half the team was falling behind, 0-9, until James Perez with the help of his teammates managed to score some points and increase their defense. The game ended with a score of 3-12.

“Although we lost a very winnable game, I still stand by my statement and believe that we won when it came to effort. I also just want to thank the all great and powerful James Perez for scoring our only 3 goals and we are all looking forward to beating Righetti at their home pool so catch us at Righetti, it’s going to be lit.”- Kevon Cabatic (12)

“At first, Saint Joes was supposed to be an easy win for the team, but I believe we aimed for offense but didn’t focus on defense which cost us the game. The beginning games of our season have been a learning process for our team. Although we may not have the best players, what we have is heart and we give all our effort to be the best we can. I believe the future of our season will be better as we continue to build [strength] among each other.” –James Perez (12)

What is Your Favorite Song to Dance to?

“I like dancing to Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra because it’s a beautiful song that has a lovely melody and a smooth voice to go with it.” -Julio Cabatan (12)

“I don’t have a specific song I like to dance to.  I like listening and dancing to any songs I can vibe to.”

-Michelle Olayo (11)

My favorite song to dance to is El Caballo Dorado because I can really shows off my dance skills!”

-Deysi Mungia (12)

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything"(Plato). Without music, there would be no meaning to life. We would all live a very plain, sad, meaningless life. Music makes a big difference in our lives. Imagine dancing without music. How strange that would be! When music and dance come together, it creates a very beautiful art form in which you are able to express your emotions through rhythmic and coordinated body motions consisting of steps, turns, shakes and other movements. We all have our favorite songs where we are able to experience and groove to.

“La Cucaracha is a great song to dance to. When there’s a lot in your house, it makes all the cucarachas dance their way out the door.” -Susana Vasquez (12)

“I like dancing to Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal.” -Jesus Campos (9)
