We May Have Lost the Battle, But Not the War
Friday night was a rough battle for the Varsity Football panthers, but our spirited students were still there to support our team. People were disappointed about the loss, but we’ll get them next time.
As much as we love wins, the real victory comes from looking up at the bleachers and seeing a giant crowd of fans chanting how much they love the dark side. “Honestly I used to go to the football games for hanging out and stuff, but now I actually really like watching our team play,” said David Penaloza (11). Even after a loss, our school is still full of winners. -J. Chavez
“I love the environment of football games, I just like the team spirit and cheering and seeing a bunch of friends. Yeah we lost but who cares, if anything we were just preserving our energy for the upcoming football game against SMHS.”

Club Spotlight: Jazz Choir
Jazz Choir is a class full of amazing and talented singers. To get involved in jazz choir, you have to audition and be ready to sing with confidence. Jazz choir is every morning at 7:30 A.M. in room 201 with Mr. Hernandez. They rehearse with dedication to perfect the songs they perform for their concerts. Mr. Hernandez is strict with his students about doing their best every time they are singing.
Jazz Choir Advisor Mr. Hernandez claims, "We're also getting ready for a couple jazz festivals. We are doing a jazz arrangement of Meghan Trainor's 'All About that Bass.' Another song we are rehearsing is an acapella arrangement of Stevie Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely.' The concert for both jazz and concert choir will be on December 6 at 6:30 P.M. in the cafeteria." Jazz choir has talent and they shine every day; they surely will make this year soundly!
"What I love about Jazz Choir is that it's a smaller, organized group of students. We sing together and practice a lot to the point that it's like we are a family. We spend time with each other outside of class and I really appreciate that." -Angelica Juenke (12, left)
"I barely joined this year, but I already find this to be an expert level choir. The environment is serious to make sure we master all the songs we are given. At the same time, everyone is friendly and welcoming to the group. The class has good balanced of fun and seriousness."
-Kevon Cabatic (12)
"I first started singing at age 12. One of my favorite songs we did in Jazz Choir was called "Autumn Leaves." It was so pretty and had a lot of dynamics and harmony."
-Rene Ramirez (11)
"Jazz choir is great because there is a level of professionalism that's just so hard to find among teenagers these days. Also, it's great to work with people who have the same love of music that you do. It's so great to just have that passion and that drive to just run the whole choir forward." -Daniel Geiger (11, right)

If I Only Had Superpowers…
Many of us would love to have superpowers. Just picturing ourselves flying with the birds, lifting 1000 pounds, or just saving people from peril. We watch the many things superheroes can do in the movies and wish we were just as amazing as them.
"I would pick being super smart because I would be able to use my knowledge and brains and make a lot of money and become successful. I would donate some money to cancer organizations and keep the rest to myself."
-Antonio Murillo (12)
"I would like to be a shapeshifter so I can be someone else and fool people into thinking I'm a different person." -Giovanni Ortega (10)
"I would pick flying, because I would travel the world. I would go to Australia and enjoy nature and the environment."
-Angel Delgadillo (11)
"I would like to turn invisible because I would be able to rob a bank and with that money I would buy 5 mansions, 5 Ferraris, and whatever my heart desires."
-Isriel Cambronero (10)
"I would want the ability to make things appear from thin air, to summon things from the palm of my hand whenever I want because I would have anything."
-Daisha (10)
