Go Take a Hike!

-Kevon Cabatic

The Outdoor Panthers is Pioneer Valley's newest club on campus. For their first adventure, this nature loving hiking club set out on a treck at Oso Flaco Lake, just this past Friday

The club is a dream come true for the outdoorsy type of student that wants to explore and hike the various trails in the area. Meetings are held in room 211 and directed by Ms. Ogren every other Thursday. So if you love the outdoors and are interested in sharing your love for it, come by and sign up! The next meeting is today at lunch.

"My goal is to get students outdoors and outside and teach them to be more aware of the environment and learn trail etiquette. The hikes are chosen by the students. Also my goal for the club is to go on longer hikes like 6 mi hikes. I started the club because where I taught in LA they had an eco club and I wanted to share the benefits with PV students the way we did in LA."  – Mrs. Ogren

Who is Your Biggest Inspiration?

Our inspiration is our drive to do the things we do, whether it's living life to the fullest like DJ Khaled says, or going to college like your mom says. We are all inspired by people who we see as great, and someday we would like to achieve the things that they have achieved. They are the people we desire to be similar to when we get older.

"My aunt is my inspiration because she was the first in my family to attend and graduate college. I'm wanting to follow in her footsteps and do the same." - Amy Meza (10)

"My inspiration is my dad because he taught me a lot of what I know now. Also, one of the most valuable lessons I've ever learned was that no matter how much you fall, never give up. When something bad happens, I just remember those words and it helps me get through it."

-Oscar Vargas (12)

"My biggest inspiration would have to be Logic the rapper, as he keeps his motto sweet and simple: Peace, love, and positivity."

-Ivan Alvarado (11)

"My biggest inspiration is Socrates because he laid the groundwork for Western systems of logic and philosophy. He's also just a cool cat."

-Gerardo Colores (11)

"My parents and my family inspire me because they always keep me on task with all of my academics, as well as motivate me to do great in school. Although they are difficult on me, they are always wanting me to do well."

-Kristy Tumbaga (12)

Club Spotlight: Harry Potter Club

The Harry Potter club looks like a club made for enthusiasts. If you are a fan, or heard about Harry Potter and want to know a lot about it, then this eccentric club would be for you. When I visited this club, they did a group activity made of four different teams; each drew out logos based on the seals from the Harry Potter houses. The four "house" names are Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Gryffindor. Before I knew about the Harry Potter club, I thought they just read the books and talked about them. If I was a Harry Potter fan, I would join! So if you're really interested, visit room 304 this and every Friday at lunch.

"One day, Alasaundra and I were at breakfast together at a amazing place called "Huckleberry's",  and she said 'I want to reread the Harry Potter series' and I said I want to reread it too. I said we should start a club and she said we should start a Harry Potter club. And that’s how this came to be!"

- Alina Davila (11) (left)

"I was not apart of the making of the club but I kind of joined last year. But I still love the club." -Daniel Geiger (11) (right)

"I wanted to do a club and honestly I've seen fandoms that can bring people together, thinking 'why not have a Harry Potter club?'. Bringing new people together and making new experiences, it has been a great experience. I've met a lot of people who I haven't met before, but I'm introverted before I made this club. After this club I can meet new people and make connections. Then that's what I really wanted the Harry Potter club to be about: meeting new people and making new connections."
