Panthers go Back to School

Carried Away Crowd

As you all know, our first football game of the 2016-17 season was held at our Pioneer Valley Stadium last Friday, August 26th. Both JV and Varsity put their all into their games, and brought back big wins. Our football teams surely did their role correctly, however, our Jungle did not.

During the Varsity game against Nipomo High School, there were multiple inconveniences in our bleachers. Granted, our crowd was attempting to show their Panther Pride, though not in the best way. "Everybody started coughing," Mona Garcia (12) said, "It was getting pretty bad." A cloud of baby powder hid the students in the stands. Some students gathered together and held up their blankets above them for cover. Fans seated in the bleachers grew aggravated at those throwing the baby powder. "When powdered paint or baby powder is organized, it can be really spirited and fun for everyone," Sophie Valenzuela (12) claims, "but when one kid is throwing it on everyone without consent, it is distracting and it made me stop enjoying the game."

It did not stop there. After that incident, a catastrophe amongst the audience broke out. Yelling and shoving between students occurred. "All of a sudden, somebody to my left said they got hit with something," Garcia claimed. Water bottles were being thrown, and the Panther Pride suddenly Panther died. Most people were trying to leave the stands because a fight was about to break out. However, our fearless leader, Principal Herrera, came to the rescue.

Ms. Herrera escorted the entire Jungle out of the stands and had a talk with the students. She demanded that, "We are never going to have a home game like this again," making sure that the students understood completely. It is never a good image to see one-fourth of the stands empty because of people's unnecessary behavior. Pioneer Valley is not only full of pride and spirit, but should also be full of respect and unity. We need to show the town that we are one, that we are happy, that we are proud to be Panthers. Also, please no more baby powder unorganized, and absolutely no throwing objects at each other. We're Panthers. We don't want anyone to have to tame us.

SEE YOU AT TOMORROW’S GAME IN SLO!

JV Girls Tennis Takes Down Saints 9-7

Yesterday's JV tennis girls gave it their all in their second game of the season against Santa Maria High. Spirits were strong as well as their swings. There was no love in this tennis match as the Panthers dominated the Saints with a score of 9-7. Keep the pride, fellow Panthers!

"They're all improving very much. They are all nice girls and I'm glad to be helping them. I know they needed a tennis coach here. Mr. Dickenson is a good friend of mine and he asked me to consider coaching so I said okay. For this season I want to see the girls improve, become strong servers and do well in their ground strokes so they can be better competitors." -Coach Osborne

"This is my first time joining the tennis team and it's going well so far. There's not really anything specific that inspires me to keep going, but just the sport itself. I'm sitting out for this game but it's really nice to just be there for my team." -Liseth Sosa (10)

"I saw people who were playing tennis before and I always enjoyed the sport even when I was younger so I really wanted to try out for the team this year. I played in second and third grade and had tennis lessons when I was in fourth grade but I didn’t really compete. I've been practicing for this game for about two weeks. I feel not really nervous but not really confident about this game either because I've seen some really good plays. I believe I can win a few games though." -Lauren Carandang (9)

"What inspired me to play tennis? I would say to get out of class early, oh wait I probably shouldn't say that. I've been playing for about a month or two and I feel sort of in between about today's game." -Clarissa Arredondo (10)

"I thought I should try tennis because it seemed fun and my friend said I should do it with her. For this season I'm looking forward to meeting new people and having fun." -Sarah Nuno (10)
