FFA Needs You!

The FFA is an organization that is dedicated to strengthening the leadership skills and agricultural knowledge of high school students throughout the nation. The FFA isn’t just cows and plows, it revolves around speaking competitions, teams dedicated to judging citrus, livestock and trees. Also, showing judges how well one can raise their Supervised Agriculture Experience Project (SAE Project). All of these exciting activities are done while traveling throughout the nation. The FFA isn’t exclusively just for aspiring farmers, but anyone who is interested in growing as an individual.

The club that is dedicated to National Blue and Corn Gold is seeking some more teal and black, which is why the Welcome Back Social was held August 24, 2016 (pictures below). Pioneer Valley’s own FFA chapter is looking for more members to recruit into the intriguing memories this year has to offer. This school year’s chapter officers consist of Daniel Segura (President), Natalya Speer (Vice President), Brigette Vargas (Secretary), DJ Claborn (Treasurer), Judith Zavala (Reporter), Michael Dulay (Sentinel), and Michelle Ambriz and Gennessa Garcia (Historians). They are eager to recruit and meet all PV students who are interested in the program. If you are one of these interested students, talk to your counselor or one of the Agriculture Advisor’s. Such as Mr. Ponce, Mr. Guerra, Mr. Wonnell, Ms. Linne, or student teacher Ms. Costa about joining an Agriculture class, you won’t regret it!

As President of the FFA Chapter what do your responsibilities conisist of?

Daniel Segura (12), FFA Chapter President: “I’m supposed to help the teachers coordinate all of the events and serve as a representative of the chapter. I enjoy being the President because I get to see our members grow as leaders. Being that this is my senior year, I want to leave my mark and go out with a bang like everyone else.”

“What impression has the FFA chapter given you with its first event of the year? What do you hope to gain from being a student teacher to the chapter?”

Ms Costa, Student Teacher: “Im impressed with the number of kids and everyone is really active in the FFA, its nice to see all these freshmen who don’t necessarily know what the FFA is. I hope to work with the Agriculture Leadership team and watch them strengthen as leaders as I do as a teacher."

“As a Freshman, you don’t have any personal experience in the FFA, what made you come out today?”

Natalie Angulo, (9): “I heard about the FFA before I entered highschool. Since I have an AG class this year, I heard about this Welcome Back Kickball game so I came out to get some class credits and see what it has to offer. I hope to get involved and possibly raise an animal."

Frosh are Friends Not Food!

Yesterday, Thursday, August 25, was dedicated to the one and only, class of 2020! A rally at lunch was held to celebrate our newest panthers as well as a friendly Twitter competition amongst our school staff! Our faculty spent the day snapping selfies with as many Freshman as they could find and posting them on the @pvhspanthers_ Twitter page. Here are just a few of the most creative pictures summited. #welcometothedarksidefreshman

“This is my first year not teaching freshman so it was a lot of fun to go out into the quad and seek out the class of 2020. Some good ol’ fashion competition is a great motivator.”- Ms Zambrano
