Panther Poetry

What do you tell
a woman if you love her?
Do your white infested
Teeth sneak around
Whenever she shows up?
Does every tick in your
Obsessive finger stop?
Or do you simply tell her
"I never wanted more than
To hold your hand the day
You wore a dress brighter
Than your eyes."
To feel the color of
A sunset on your cheeks
When she tells you
That she wouldn’t want
Anyone else but you.
I have never felt like
An oven , like a stove
Inside of my chest .
I don’t imagine the
Cherries of your cheeks
On any other face again.
I am in love.
Girls' Volleyball Sets the Season Against SMHS
-Story by Jordan Gonzales and Lorenz Dodson / Photos by Jasmin Chavez, Lauren Limon, Jordan Gonzales, Kylia Harrison, Andres Copado, Lorenz Dodson, Crystal Barrig
All of PV’s Girls’ Volleyball teams (freshmen, JV, and Varsity) hosted a scrimmage yesterday against Santa Maria High. Both schools were finally able to exercise the volleyball skills they have been practicing all summer long, and all teams played hard. Pioneer had tons of support, and Santa Maria came with a hype squad of their own. A jerk battle nearly ensued between PV and SM, before Monteiro shut it down. The season is sure to be a good one, judging by how last night's game played out. Our correspondent, Jordan Gonzales, was able to interview some players:
How do you feel about volleyball being your first high school athletic experience?
"It's lit, I plan on playing next year. I love volleyball because it's aggressive, exciting, and competitive. But practice is exhausting because there's a lot of jumping." -Janefer Ilaban (9)
How did you feel about your first game and the spirit in the crowd?
"Everyone was lit and into the game which made me play better. The positive energy gave me a lot of confidence. It wasn't that hard of a game, but we'll see how the rest of the season will go." -Rebecca Escobar (JV)
How does it feel for this upcoming season being your last in high school?
"It's exciting because I know I'm going to give it my all. But it's also a little sad because I probably won't play volleyball competitively after high school. Catch us at CIF! " -Cassie Velazquez (12)
USA Dominates Olympics
-Alexis Dagar
Over the centuries, athletes from all over the world gather to compete every four years. This year in Rio 2016, some of the summer sports competitors included: basketball, boxing, diving, gymnastics, wrestling, triathlon, and many more. The Olympics have ended and the final results are in. The country with a total of 121 medals is the United States! With 46 gold medals, 37 silver, and 38 bronze, our country has stood the highest while China and Great Britain were behind with total medal counts of 70 and 67. No matter how expected or unexpected the results were, Rio 2016 had some good games. Be proud, America!
"The Olympics was good. My favorite sport I watched was soccer and it was really exciting." Arturo Ramirez (11)
"Yes, I did watch the Olympics. I feel proud to be an American and it inspires me to do good things so I could go to the Olympics. I think they are good and bad, they display the best of each country. They also exclude people who are good at other things than sports." Kelsey Marshall (10)
"Although I was planning on watching the Olympics this year, I wasn't able to get to it. I really enjoy watching the track races because I have had experience in track as well." Omar Mata (10)
"Yes I watched the Olympics and it was actually very interesting. It was very intense watching the many sports and the Olympians trying their very best." Shellvy Sanchez (10)
