PV Gets New ID Cards
School pictures were taken August 2nd-3rd, 2016. However this year wasn’t like any other picture day at PVHS, this time the student body received their id cards before taking the actual school photo. How might you ask? Well it’s because they used last year’s picture for the new ID cards of 2017. Although most of the students are satisfied; the big question here is: why the new card but the same picture?

First of all, the new ID cards were the school board's suggestion. They wanted to have trackable ID cards, due to the fact that in some cases students ride to away games or field trips and either get lost or something goes wrong and the student must be found.
How does it work? Well on the back of the ID card there is a layout with 4 doted prints on each side. They’re used as a tracking device in the sense that they are only active when scanned with school scanners. The ID card will notify if a student is present at school events, school games, and business office payments. And maybe in the near future they can be used to take attendance for students.

The only way to have the new ID cards in session was to have used last year’s photo to make them “I know it’s not fair for the seniors, but that was the only way of printing them." Greg Dickinson, Assistant Principle.

There is an upside to this; you can purchase a new card with the picture taken during the school pictures and it will only cost $3.00 at the business office. Because yes, seniors were a little bummed out about not having their 4 years of development in their hands.

“I think it’s not a big deal because we take senior pictures.” Kayla Trigueiro (12)
“I don’t like the fact that they used last year’s photo, also the ID card’s colors are faded.” Cassandra Velazquez (12)
“I don’t care for it really. I don't understand the different design and same picture. That’s wack.” Miguel Rojas (12)
“I think they’re nice. I enjoy the design of the card, and that they used our graduating class year." Moises Olmedo (12)

Freshmen Tell All:
How have you liked PV so far? Do you like all of your classes? What is something you would change about the school? And finally, are you excited for the next 4 years of your life?
"My experience at Pioneer has been great so far. My first few days were fun and easy. I went to the link crew orientation so finding my classes was easy. I like my classes and all of my teachers. I don't think I would change anything about the school. I do have to admit that finding my friends at break or lunch was the hardest part since there are so many kids on campus. I am very excited for the next 4 years! I can't wait to spend it with my friends!" - Aliyah Valencia
"I have really liked PV so far. I like all 7 of my classes. At the moment, I wouldn't change anything about the school and yes I'm excited for the next four years of my life."
-Robert Jones
"I really like it! In my opinion it's the same as Jr. High, it's just a highe school and there are more people. But I don't like having PE for 2nd. Also right now I'm in a high Spanish class that I shouldn't be in so I should be moving soon. My English class is a class I shouldn't be in as well, it's a really low class, and my teacher said they must have misplaced me. And yes I am [excited for high school], I hope I have a great 4 years at PV."

Brendan's Journey to Japan
This summer, my friend Brendan went to a seminar in the Nara Prefecture in Japan. While he was there, he did many things. One of the things Brendan did in Nara was volunteer work around the community. Some of the volunteer work he did there was to go to an orphanage and hang out with the orphans. During Brendan's time in Nara, he also practiced dance and music. He also spent some quality time with the friends he made during the seminar and visited some of the many temples in Nara.
"I made life long relationships and connections with people I only knew for a short period of time and I will never forget this experience."- Brendan Lopez 12th grade
A temple in the Nara Prefuncture
There was an endless amount of great shopping!
