Issue 70 vol. 2

Boys’ Varsity Soccer Took on the Titans at home last night and scored big! The Panthers started off their win by making a goal in the first half, making the score at half-time 1-0. During the second half, our Panthers made two amazing goals giving us a lead of 3-0. The Panthers fought really hard to make two more goals, but they still brought the win home. Good job Panthers! Let's keep getting more wins and bringing them all home.

We wish a great big happy 17th birthday to our panther Justin Michael Walker born November 30th, 1999- June 22nd, 2015. You left a paw print in our hearts; you’ll never be forgotten, ball up in Heaven. Happy birthday, golden boy.

“It was a privilege to have him in my life, even if it was a short time, he’s still a part of our class and I’m sure he’s celebrating just like we will down here and wish him a very happy birthday.”-Vanessa Piñon (12)

"Over Thanksgiving break I got together with my family and went to Los Angeles. Instead of eating turkey, we ate a traditional Mexican dish. We went around the table and said what we were thankful for. I'm thankful for my family." -Leidy Rodriguez (10)

PVHS students had one whole week of break to spend with friends and families for Thanksgiving. Many spent the extra days sleeping in and spending time with their families. My family and I hosted Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year. My brother is in charge of the turkey and my mom in charge of the rest. The food was delicious as always and we spent a lovely time with our family. I'm always thankful for friends and family. Some of your fellow panthers tell us how they spent their Thanksgiving break.

"Over Thanksgiving break I spent a lot of time working. Thanksgiving was really fun, it was nice seeing my family and hanging out with friends and family the entire break. I also did some black Friday shopping and was able to get a few gifts for my sister and parents. I tried a new type of sushi from Mikados during the week." -Vanessa Diaz (12)

"My Thanksgiving break was good. For Thanksgiving break, I had soccer practice two of the days. I spent a lot of time with my friends and family for Thanksgiving. I just waited for my mom to finish cooking so I could eat, that's pretty much it." -Manuel Ortiz (10)

"During break I slept in a lot because I needed the rest. I also watched a lot of Netflix. Thanksgiving day, I ate a lot of food and spent time with my family and friends. I had a really good time over break. Can't wait for winter break now." -Consuelo Lara (12)

"I worked all week except Friday during our Thanksgiving break. On Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, the place was very busy. I had a good time, though."

-Rudy Gutierrez (12)

Drama Auditions

Once again, the drama department is looking for people to audition for the upcoming musical: School of Rock. Yesterday after school, the band and choir teacher Mrs. Whelander and Mr. Hernandez guided dozens of students in learning the two songs for auditions, which are held December 1st and 2nd.

The teachers divided the groups of singers in two different settings. One of the groups were for the male roles in the play, learning the song "You're in the Band!". The second group divided were for the small children and female roles, from different songs learning "Where Did the Rock Go?" And "If Only You Would Listen.". Pioneer Valley's rendition of the play will be held in the newly built arts center in the spring. Be sure to learn the song needed and be motivated to do your best at auditions, good luck!

ACTIVITIES

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, November 30 – December 2, we will be having a time of saying “You Matter to Me”.  This is a time for all Panthers to make individual connections with others, and to give appreciation for each other’s talents and good qualities.

Wednesday, November 30 will be “5 minutes day”.  Everyone should wear black.

During this day, Student Council is encouraging everyone to have 5 minute conversations with people they do not know – and to post a picture with their new friend on the PVHS Twitter page.

Thursday will be “Lollipop Compliments”. Gray is the clothing color of the day, and Student Council will be stocking a table with lollipops and blank notes.   Everyone will be able to write a note to someone, attach it to the lollipop and give it to someone to make their day!

Friday, December 3, will be “Sticky Note Station” rally day.  Please wear white clothing.

We will have a “You Matter to Me” rally that day, and everyone will be able to contribute to a “sticky note” poster to show love and appreciation to others.
