Issue 69 vol. 2

This week, our ASB came up with an idea called “You Matter to me”. This was a combined idea that grew into something that ASB thought should be implemented into the school and its students. The goal with this idea is to let everyone know that they do truly matter in school and in life. ASB President Candice Corpuz (12) says, “People should not feel like anything else because we all have something that can contribute to the positivity of society. I think people will participate and I would hope that they actually do. You Matter To Me is an important message. In some cases and during some events, I do see indifference or lack of interest within the school. I do hope that people start to put their best foot forward and partake in what goes on.”

Wednesday, will be “5 minutes day”. Everyone should wear black, and Student Council is encouraging everyone to have 5 minute conversations with people they do not know – and to post a picture with their new friend on the PVHS Twitter page. Thursday will be “Lollipop Compliments”. Gray is the clothing color of the day, and Student Council will be stocking a table with lollipops and blank notes. Everyone will be able to write a note to someone, attach it to the lollipop and give it to someone to make their day. Friday will be “Sticky Note Station”, and white clothing should be worn. A “You Matter to Me” rally will happen that day, and everyone will be able to contribute to a “sticky note” poster to show love and appreciation to others.

On Friday, a dance will be held from 8-10 on Friday.

Black Friday Adventures

This thanksgiving break, like every other one, some students participated in a tradition that most Americans participates in. Something large people look forward to is known as “Black Friday”, and these are some of their adventures.

David Lopez (12)

Yes I went black Friday shopping, all I bought was a paintball gun. I also went to Walmart, Best Buy, and the mall, Dicks Sporting Goods and, Tillys. I didn’t wait outside of any stores it was way too cold. One cool thing I saw was a guy that tried to steal a Ps4 from best buy and a bystander standing in the Tillys line tackled him and held down until cops came and arrested him about 1 minute later.

Junior Hoobery (11)

Yes I went Black Friday shopping at Nike, Victoria’s Secret and Macy’s. I didn’t wait outside of any stores. I got a hoodie, socks, sweats and some stuff for my girlfriend. I got in a fight with a short older guy for a TV then he called his cousins so I left. I got some great deals; I liked it.

Kathy Manzano (11)

When I went Black Friday shopping, originally I just wanted to see what all the hype was about. I didn’t plan on getting anything but my dad offered me something so he bought me a TV  mount I was bugging about. I went to Walmart, Best Buy, Target, Macy’s and Sears. No I didn’t want to wait outside of any stores because I thought that eating thanksgiving dinner, spending time inside my warm house with my family was better alternative to waiting outside in the cold for meaningless things on sale.

The students are excited and thankful this holiday season to be part of something special. They are happy to be able to give something back to some lucky family that may not have been able to have a tree or afford presents this season. Pioneer Valley FFA is glad to help and be part of this event. Please stop by the mall and help support the cause. Merry Christmas!

Several Pioneer Valley FFA students are taking part in the Annual Altrusa Festival of Trees. The festival of trees which is found in a store space at the Santa Maria Town Center Mall highlights the beginning of our Christmas joy. The purpose of the festival is to raise funds for grants and scholarships for local high school seniors. With over 50 trees on display, Pioneer Valley FFA did their part in decorating and bringing gifts to their tree entitled “Golden Christmas”.
Local companies annually contribute with donations to make this festival a wonderful spectacle. Last year over $50,000 were raised. The festival runs through December 13, 2016.
To support the cause there are boxes in front of every themed tree in the store space where local families in need, foster children, community members, and many more deposit a $1 ticket. At the end of the festival tickets are drawn and the trees, decorations, and gifts are donated to the winning families and their sons/daughters that gaze in awe at the gifts, trees, and simply the joy of celebrating Christmas which may not have had happened if it wasn’t for this cause.
