Issue 66 vol. 2

Last week on Thursday and Friday, a few of the AVID classes took a trip to San Francisco and Santa Cruz to check out their campuses. It was two full days of non-stop walking. They visited the beautiful universities of UC Berkeley, Stanford, San Francisco State, and UC Santa Cruz. Being able to see the campuses while school was in session was exciting because we were able to get the full atmosphere of college life. Also, going to a Stanford versus USC volleyball game (and winning t-shirts for being the loudest section) gave us the full experience of a college student.

"My favorite university that we went to was Stanford and knowing how many famous people have walked in that campus and among all the beauty." -Josh Martinez (12)

"My favorite campus was Stanford because it was beautiful! It had all the tall palm trees, the intricately detailed church, pillars in front of the buildings, and the scenery was so pretty! I liked that it was a secluded campus and that the atmosphere of it gave off the feeling of a true college campus." -Candice Corpuz (12)

"Santa Cruz had to be my most favorite campus because it's like right in the middle of a forest. I actually think it's one of my top colleges at this point. It's a little hilly, but it's gorgeous. There were some deer just off to the side of the campus; although it was literally the opposite of an urban setting, I still loved the atmosphere of it." -Melia Patterson (12)

"Okay I may seem biased because Stanford is my dream school, but it honestly was my favorite campus because you actually feel like you're on a college campus. I didn't feel like I was at the other schools. It felt like we were just there in a town. As if Stanford is basically its own town. Plus, Stanford’s campus is absolutely gorgeous whether in the day or night." -Ashley Joy Domingo (12)

Cosmetology Club’s Workshop Wednesday

The main components of eye makeup are mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow. In this workshop, people were taught some helpful tips on the topic of eyeshadow. Another tip that should be accounted for is a primer. Primer is used to intensify a color, or for long wear because most people have oily eyelids and without primer, a line of eyeshadow is left on the crease and it’s just an oily mess. The club offers workshops every other Wednesday in Ms. Burke’s classroom for makeup novices, and anyone can volunteer to teach, leave tips, or even be a model.

“I don’t really use a primer, but I think a concealer works, too. What I like to do is I apply a light amount of a neutral shade to the crease, because it’s supposed to be a shadow. And if you want more, then apply more. Never apply too much but rather do a build up because then it’ll just be a mess,” said President Renzo Pulido (12).
