Issue 64 vol. 2

Fall is here which means Thanksgiving is upon us! Thanksgiving is a U.S. celebration that commemorates the interaction between the pilgrims and Native Americans as well as the hospitality between the two parties. The "First Thanksgiving" was shared in 1621 with Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians. Although today's thanksgiving meals include mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and a big turkey, there were slimmer pickings during the first Thanksgiving. Some foods included corn, venison, porridge, and fowl. No matter how you're celebrating Thanksgiving this year, remember to be grateful for the small things in life. Happy Thanksgiving!

Gustav Klimt: Symbolism

To express a deep need for the artists of past and present times, there is "critically" acclaimed paintings from an Austrian symbolist named Gustav Klimt. He is much noted for his paintings of the gold ages, women, birth, and love. His paintings show a strong passion for eroticism, including nudity, but as well as love between men and women. Klimt's most famous paintings were during his "golden phase", showcasing golden leaves. One of his many paintings I find interesting is "The Kiss", portraying a man gently kissing the cheek of a woman smiling, from joy. It represents the gold touch that love may give you, and a warm feeling much of the worth of it.

There are many more paintings made throughout the late 1800's to early 1900's. His most painted person, Adele Bloch-Bauer, a wealthy society woman fancied by this Austrian painter. Sadly, Gustav Klimt died in 1918 around the end of his well-known "gold phase," his paintings live on in modern society and became inspiration for many other painter's styles.
