Issue 56 vol. 2

The students in Ms. Walter’s 3rd period Leadership class are doing a project on social media and cyberbullying.  One group is tasked with writing a script and making three videos between now and November 15.  Here is the first of the three. The project was the result of the students’ identifying what they believe is the biggest problem on campus, and finding ways to bring attention to the problem and to combat it.  Their overwhelming choice was social media and how it is used to hurt people. One group is in charge of the “PSA” videos, one is in charge of publicity, and the third is planning a campaign that will last from November 14-16 to highlight solutions. –Ms. Walters

Scariest Experience

No one likes to be scared whether you admit it or not. It happens to everyone at some point in your life, even your parents have gone through this, probably even the staff at PVHS. Some might be scary moments and others might just seem like its scary, but it's not. We are all afraid of going into an ally in the middle of the night by yourself. You get even more scared when you start to hear footsteps behind you and then you start to panic. You start to sweat and have this really bad feeling that it could be someone that is trying to hurt you. You're so scared that you want to call your mom to come and pick you up but you try to suck it up and just walk past the ally so that you could just go home and never talk about what you went through that night.

We all wished that this could be true but something always goes wrong. While you’re going through this you think of ways to get out of this situation. You think about running but then you realize that you’re not that athletic so you don't. Then you think about calling your parents but your phone is at 5% which means that there is now way you could have enough time to tell your mom where you are because it's a very complicated address to say and to spell so now you can't do that. Your other option would be to confront this person but what if this person has a gun or a knife, then what do you do? At this point you probably ran out of ideas and that person might already be behind you. So, you panic and just turn around and then realize that it is your friend. This might have relieved you from so much stress, but what if it wasn't?

The scariest experience I went through would be the time I started choking at Taco Bell."  -Ulises Moreno (12)

"I was swimming in the ocean with a friend and we swam all the way out to the buoys and about 5 minutes after we reached the buoys, I felt something brush against my leg so we swam inland as fast as we could. I don't know if it was an animal or seaweed but it was scary." -Haley Wood (12)

"A scary moment I went through was when I went out with friends late at night to hang out. Back then I had a curfew and I got home 2 hours late. My parents were really scared and they asked me if something had gone wrong. Ever since then my parents would call me to check up on me, just to make sure I was doing okay." -Shawn Delapena (10)

"My scariest story would have to be when I started high school. I didn’t know where my classes were, I couldn’t find my friends, and I was scared that upperclassmen and teachers were going to be worse than people described them." -Sua Vargas (12)
