Patty Rubio Crowned PV Homecoming Queen

This past Friday, October 28th, was our 2016 Homecoming football game where we broke some sweat on the field, introduced our Homecoming queen candidates and their fathers, and crowned out the 2016 Homecoming Queen. Last year's queen of 2015, Andrea Ortega, returned in her ornate, cream dress and passed her crown down to our new Homecoming Queen: Patty Rubio! A pearly white smile was seen on Patty's face the second that teal balloons emerged from her black box, and it never managed to disappear. Although Patty won the votes, Emilee Blair won our heart and soul. Rubio decided to pass her crown to Blair, because she believed that she deserved it. Patty passed Emilee a big smile, and eventually got emotional. Tears escaped from Rubio's eyes out of joy and compassion towards Blair. The next night, the Homecoming queens celebrated their busy and eventful weeks through dancing and many laughs.

"Coming back to PVHS to see everyone just having a good time is awesome. I’ve been through this experience: the nerve wracking feeling. When I was pronounced queen, I was shocked. I put so much work into it and let nothing put me down, and the main reason I wanted to do this was because I wanted to walk with my dad because I didn’t have a quince , and just walk with him was perfect."

–Andrea "Chile" Ortega

"I feel good! I’m excited for the dance and my dress is going to be pink and I’m going all natural." -Emilee Blair (12)

"I feel so happy and so shocked. I want to say thank you to all of my friends and everyone who helped me and supported me. I’m very excited; it’s definitely going to stay with me forever. Thank you for everyone who voted for me, to all my teachers and friends!" -Patty Rubio (12)

Joseph Aquino Crowned King at Homecoming Dance

This weekend, our Four Seasons One Night dance had an amazing turnout! Everyone hit that dance floor busting out their best moves. The majority of the students dressed formally, showing their true dapper selves as gorgeous dresses and snazzy tuxes adorned our students. Ms. Walters, the Activities Director, claims that this is "the best dance we've had!" Our dear principal, Mrs. Herrera, agrees, saying that we've "never had a dance like this, ever!" Our 2016 Homecoming King was also crowned: Joseph Aquino! After meeting so many new people and sharing so many smiles, Aquino managed to be crowned Homecoming King by his running partner and Homecoming Queen, Patty Rubio. Patty and Joseph shared a meaningful dance together to a version of John Legend's "All of Me." Afterwards, friends celebrated Aquino's win by holding him above their heads and tossing him into the air. Aquino felt like the king of the world. What an experience! This year's Homecoming dance was an incredible success, and this will certainly be one for the books.

"As soon as that crown was put on me, I felt a feeling of satisfaction and contentment. I realized that all the time and effort put in throughout the week was well worth it. From being nervous to feeling happy and excited all within seconds of Patty crowning me was very special as well. Dancing with her was a memorable moment. We were together through the entire campaign and I got to say that we both deserved to win. While we danced, I had constant flashbacks on all the work we put into running and the fulfillment we had as we were the winners. I must say that all this was possible with the help of many people. Whether it was making shirts, posters, slogans, telling people to vote for me, or simply being there to bring those positive vibes through the process. My people do it best. The entire experience was great and unforgettable. We got it done: Joseph the King!" -Joseph Aquino
