Halloween Dance
The PVHS Special Education Department and the Student Council presented the third annual Halloween Dance for severely handicapped students yesterday, October 25th. The dance started at 9:30 a.m. and wrapped up around 11:30 a.m. inside the campus cafeteria. Nearly 180 special education students from the SMJUHSD participated in the costume gala that provided students a chance to socialize and celebrate with their school age peers.

Mrs. Kim, Mrs. Hurd, and Mr. Dowell, teachers in the Special Education Severely Handicapped classrooms, were very grateful for the Panther Pride that was on display. ASB decorated the event, set up a photo station, operated a face painting station, and hosted an ice cream bar. They also joined in the festivities, putting on costumes and dancing with the district's SH students.
“It is a special feeling to see our students having the time of their life and to see our own student leaders providing support and encouragement. The Student Council at PVHS has always been a great supporter of the students with severe disabilities,’’ said PVHS Teacher, Mr. Jody Dowell. “It was apparent to the other schools and programs in attendance, the amount of support all of our students give and receive.”
"My favorite part of dance was dancing with my friends and eating chocolate gummy bear ice cream. I won cutest costume award as a minion." -Elias Amavisca

"I liked dancing and I liked the music. I was Bart from the Simpsons. My favorite food to eat was the vanilla and chocolate ice cream. It was really fun." -Jacob Diaz

Girls’ Volleyball Senior Night
The night that every athlete anticipates the second they put on their jersey, happened for the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball last night, October 25th, as PV hosted RHS for one final match. Senior Night is a segment during the last home game for every sport that acknowledges the hard work of the seniors getting ready to graduate. The senior athletes’ families and teammates shower them with balloons, posters, and gifts. This moment of endearment always turns out to be emotional, but a necessary rite of passage that every athlete will go through.
“I’m pretty emotional. I don’t play any other sports; this is the only other sport I’ve ever played. This is the team I’ve been on for four years. This is like a family that I won’t have anymore. We won two league games this season which is the most any girls' varsity volleyball team has won in the past seven years.”
-Sophia Valenzuela (12)
"I'm really sad that I won't be able to play with these girls anymore, but I'm happy that I finally get to experience what it’s like to have a senior night. This season went well; it was a memorable season because of my teammates."
-Taryn Anaya (12)
"I'm sad, because they are leaving, but I'm glad because they're gonna move on to do something better. I hope we play well. This season was good overall, but it could’ve been better." -Sasha Brafman (10)
"I’m happy this is my senior night, but I'm sad that this is my last game. I've been playing this sport for four years, and I feel that it went by so fast." -Paulina Garcia (12)
-Jordan Gonzales
What Music will You be requesting at Hoco?
I really like to dance Banda music. If I can request a song at Homecoming, I would request the song 'Mad High' by 21 Savage. The type of music I would not dance to is country music." -Dulce Garcia (9)
"I like dancing to old R&B and new rap. It gets me pumped, but I don’t know why. I would probably request X by 21 Savage, because I just feel like everyone knows that song so everyone would be able to dance to it. I would not dance to slow music. I'm just not good at slow dancing and I feel like it's better to dance to more up-beat songs. -Natalia Neddlham (9)
"I like to dance to rap music. A song I want to request at Homecoming is 'Gassed Up' by Nebu Kiniza. Something I cannot dance to is Mexican music." -Mario Renteria (11)
