AP Testing Advice
With the school year coming to a close, it is time for the dreaded advance placement testing. No matter if you have one AP class to five, it is very important to do your best in every test you take. Here are some tips you can use to take advantage of the wonderful testing season.
Before the test:
- Study smarter, not harder: remember to take breaks and don't cram your brain last minute.
- Catch them Z's: this may be a cliché but you don't want to be drooling on your test.
- Review with a study buddy: two brains are better than one, find someone to study with in case you have any last minute questions.
- Get teacher's help: if you have any last minute clarification or review, your teacher may be able to help.
- DO NOT BE LATE: getting there on time will ensure you haven't missed any special instructions the advisor is probably too tired of repeating. Plus, it's really awkward to be the only one walking in.
During the test:
Don't cheat. Just don't.
Multiple choice:
- Educated guessing doesn't hurt, plain guessing does. Learn the difference.
- Move on: if you have been rereading the questions and/or answers more than two times, skip it.
Essay:
- Only write what you need to: there is usually no required length or amount of paragraphs. The quality of the essay is more important than quantity.
- Reread the prompt: make sure you understand what is being asked and remember to stay on topic at all times.
- Don't be afraid to write. It is understood that it is a first draft. Crossed out words and not so great diction is expected.
Overall:
Remember to breathe. DON'T STRESS TOO MUCH! The more oxygen supply to your brain, the more likely you'll do alright. No pressure and good luck!
