Stay Woke: Trump & Syria

Is it America's job to go and police other nations? Not really but we do it anyway. Syria has been going through a civil war since 2011 and as a nation we've stood by trying to avoid conflict. But on April 6th, Trump sent missiles towards a Syrian airbase in response to a Syrian regime gas strike against its own people that killed 85, including 24 children. You can try and think of those people as just numbers, but that was someone's friend, mom, dad, brother, sister, husband, wife or child. These people were innocent civilians and you can try and turn away from the harsh reality of it all but they all had a heart, mind, and soul. Did Trump make the right decision?

So why should high school students even care about what's happening in Syria? Well, you don't have to, but everything that happens in our young adult life will eventually affect us in our future. If you don't already know it, you ARE living through history and wouldn't you rather be informed than oblivious?

“I’m undecided on the matter but I’m sure glad I’m not the president.”

“I feel like it was the right call made under the wrong administration. But bombing another country should never be the initial response.” Angelica Juenke (12)

Sergio Santiago (11)

“I hate Trump but I feel like bombing Syria was the right thing to do. But it’s all very sad.”

"Your Name" Reviewed

Your Name is a 2016 Japanese anime film written and directed by Makoto Shinkai. Based on his novel of the same name published a month before the film's premiere, Your Name tells the story of a high school girl in rural Japan and a high school boy in Tokyo who swap bodies. (Taken from Wikipedia).

I loved the characters, the humor and overall story. It made me cry and laugh, this is not just one of the best animated films I have ever seen but one of the best films I have ever seen period. The soundtrack is great as well. Note it is only being played in Santa Barbara but if you use the website kissanime you can watch it. 9.7/10
