Do PVHS Staff like Star Wars?

-Breadman Lopez

"I like the fact that Star Wars is an analogy based on good and evil and represents two opposing forces. I also like the fact that there's a message in there that students can learn. There is a greater power that you can embody to defeat evil. I think if they look at Star Wars and they see it in that regard of like, you know, what there are forces in existence that are good and the other ones are evil. If you tune in to what's happening, not in the physical realm but spiritual realm, then you can have victory. That part I like. As far as the movies themselves go, they are a little dark actually and creepy. In that aspect, I wouldn’t recommend necessarily that someone get all into it and watch them all, because I think you can watch one of them and get that idea I mentioned." -Mr. Dearborn (English teacher)

"I am absolutely a Star Wars fan. I like it because it's Sci-Fi and I love science. It's totally corky science, but I am fine with that. I like Star Trek also. I would not go to any type of comic-con dressed up as Luke or Leia or anything like that, but I absolutely love it. I will admit Avatar is way better. The first Star Wars movie was awesome but yeah Avatar holy moly blew my socks off! It was pretty similar to Star Wars with the audience level it was playing to. A 9 year old could watch it, so Star Wars is geared for that age range. My husband and my whole generation wanted to be Luke. We all still talk like Yoda. My kids have watched them all except Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, because it was a little bit too scary. I'm going to wait till they are a little older for that one. They love the new ones and old ones. We love them all!" -Mrs. Baines  (Science teacher)

"I was a fan when I was younger and when I had kids that were young. My kids are adults now. I'm still a fan, but I actually haven't seen the last 2 movies. I'm not eager to go out and see it, but I'll watch it when I get around to it. I'm not in a rush to go see it." -Mr. Harmon (Econ Teacher)

"I love Star Wars. Good childhood memories and awesome movies. They're still good to watch"

-Mr. Feher

(English teacher)

Star Wars isn't just for the students. Teachers also have the right to enjoy Star Wars. What Pioneer Valley teacher like Star Wars?

AVID 2019 Tours Monterey Colleges

-Alexis Dagar

Recently, our 2019 AVID class took a day trip to two universities: Cal State Monterey Bay and University of California, Santa Cruz. These students were able to learn about the two universities and all of what they had to offer. Whether it being the majors, the students, or the food court; students had much to learn from this trip.

"I think the trip was successful because students got to see two different types of schools. Although some of them didn't like both schools, they at least got to learn which schools they wouldn't want to go to. My least favorite part is always the travel. It's a long bus ride and waking up early is not typically my thing. As for the trip itself, my personal favorite was getting to learn about two universities I didn't know much about and I'm assuming my students learned as well. Visiting schools when you're in AVID is important because it gives you a perspective that you can't get from researching online or even getting a virtual tour. It's not the same as actually experiencing the environment or the people in the school. It's good to see firsthand what the school has to offer. The coolest part was being able to see the dorm. Schools never really show the dorms but in Monterey, they have a dorm specifically for show which was really cool to see." -Ms. Carrillo (AVID/Spanish teacher).
