Student Spotlight: Brendan Lopez

-Lorenz Dodson

Meet Brendan Jared Araki Lopez: a star student with dashing good looks, a phenomenal athlete, an involved student, and to top it all off, a man who works at the YMCA.

Brendan Lopez is a distinguished scholar. Ever since junior high, this young man has taken Honors classes up to his senior year, where he takes AP classes. Brendan cares a lot about his academic life, he maintains a 4.0 GPA, and it’s not rare to see him doing homework in his free time. Brendan plans to go to Hancock to get his general education, and then he hopes to transfer to a 4 year university to study business.

Brendan has got the brains, but he’s also got the brawn. From the 5th grade in little league, to junior high in Babe Ruth League, to high school, Brendan has stuck with baseball for the love of the sport. Currently, he plays outfield on PV’s Varsity team.

In addition to being a student athlete, the B-man STAYS involved. He’s a bi-weekly writer for the Panther Tales, an active member of Key Club, and a participator of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Does this man ever get any time for himself?!?

To add on top of being a distinguished scholar-athlete and being an involved student, Brendan even finds the time to maintain a job at the YMCA! He works with kids, ages 3-5, as an assistant coach, teaching the young kids flag football, soccer, and basketball. He works for the experience, to help his mom out with bills, and to pay for all of those senior expenses.

Brendan is a shining example of the potential of a Panther if you set your mind to it. We should all try to find a little bit of the “Bread Man” in ourselves.
