Prom Tickets on Sale Now!

"Prom is right around the corner and I think all seniors should go. Ticket prices are $45 and it will be held at the Veterans' Hall. I think it'll be a memorable event for all since it is one of our last events all together, which is why everyone should attend. Our senior officers have been putting in a great deal of planning into this event and I can't wait to see how it all plays out!"

Boys' Varsity & JV Volleyball Crush Conqs

-David Penaloza, Elizabeth Morales, & Jordan Gonzales

Yesterday, March 7th, our Boys Varsity Volleyball hosted Cabrillo at our gym with an unexpected abundance of matches. This was the third game of the preseason. Considering this was preseason, the audience attendance was somewhat low, while the energy of the game was at an all-time high. It was an eventful five matches, from Angel Gonzalez soaring onto the score table while trying to save the ball, to Eric Ramirez faking a hit to the other team, and the Panthers winning the competitive game. Not only have the Varsity boys made PV proud, but prior to their game, JV also won. Although those who missed the game won’t be able to experience the intensity again, Tuesday nights are devoted to volleyball and it is highly encouraged that students come out to support the Boys this season. Good Job Panthers for setting the bar so high for this upcoming season!

Panther Gets Accepted to Harvard!

-Breadman Lopez

Our very own Erik Ruiz was accepted to Harvard. Getting accepted to Harvard is a huge accomplishment. The acceptance rate is 5.4% with a total of 22,000 students. Some notable Harvard graduates are Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, and Bill Gates! Being accepted is definitely something to be proud of.

"I think it is great to see someone from Santa Maria, a city of a lot of poverty and immigrants, get accepted to one of the best universities in the world. I'm extremely happy for him and he definitely deserved it considering what he has accomplished these four years; and I know he'll make the most of it. I also know that the prestige and name won't define him and he'll continue prioritizing his character and humble demeanor despite the great opportunity ahead of him." -Andrew Eisner (12) (right)

"I'm leaning toward attending at the moment. I'm going to wait and see what else happens. Regardless it’s a very humbling accomplishment to be lucky enough to be accepted. I believe this accomplishment validates the struggle my parents, grandparents, and my community have made. It is not only my goal but everyone else's to make sure the sacrifices people have made for us pay off. My only advice to underclassmen would be to do the things you do not want to do." -Erik Ruiz (12)

"Erik's acceptance to Harvard has definitely had an impact on me. It choked me up when he told me and it’s my first student to get into Harvard. I've had students go to Berkeley, University of Chicago, and all over the place but that is my first Harvard student. I'm really elated. It blows my mind that were studying T.S. Eliot and were reading "The Love Song" of J. Alfred Prufrock and that this guys is considered like the father of modernism and he went to the same school that one of my students might be studying at next year; so I'm blown away." -Mr. Rothstein (AP English teacher)

Hummiss You Jaffa!

-Xayda Gonzalez

Jaffa Café, Mediterranean Restaurant. Local cafe chain serving shawarma, kebabs, wraps & other Mediterranean options in a casual manner. Jaffa Café has authentic Mediterranean food that will leave you wanting more! They have a wide selections of great food options and amazing hummus. One thing is for sure they have quick, lovely, friendly service. My first experience here was satisfying and addictive. The hummus and pita have such a welcoming balance to them. Their prices are also inexpensive for a quick lunch, on the go, or dinning in. The atmosphere is pleasant, clean, and the ceiling is breath taking; it really ties down the Mediterranean style. First timers also will receive FREE Baklava(Greek pastry)!!
