FFA has Field Day in Davis

The FFA began its' judging competition season this past Friday and Saturday at the University of California, Davis. 19 Freshmen from Pioneer Valley FFA attended the UC Davis Field Day Competition and tested their skills in three different areas.  Pictured to the right are the Freshmen only Creed Public Speakers made up of Marina Cuevas, Brianna Nunez, Sergio Segura, Nick Vasquez, Nicole Cabatan, Angelica Rodriguez, Jennie Medina, Francheska Cabeliza, and not pictured Sebastian Pinon. These 9th graders memorized and recited a five paragraph statement written by E.M. Tiffany that was adopted at the beginning of the FFA organization in 1930.  Afterwards they have to answer three questions testing their knowledge and understanding of the creed.

The Livestock Evaluation team also competed.  Pictured left, the team is made up of Elizabeth Garcia, Luke Zaragosa, Hanns Sardina, Andrew Calderon, Rafael Ramos, Jonathan Gonzales, and Angel Espinosa.  These students were tested on their evaluation skills of four different species that included beef, sheep, swine, and goats.  The contest consisted of ten judging classes and four questions classes where our freshmen were asked several questions about specific class placings and animal conformation.

Over the next few months FFA students will be competing at field days hosted by colleges throughout the state including Chico State, Merced Junior College, Modesto Junior College, Fresno State, Cal Poly Pomona, Reedley Community College, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  Wish our students luck as they try to compete for a state championship and earn a trip to compete at the National Competitions in Indianapolis, IN in October.

Lauren Limon Tours Chicago

Touring around the magnificent city of Chicago was amazing. There were so many gigantic skyscrapers, beautiful statues, and delicious deep dish pizzerias to go eat at. One of my favorite spots to go to was Millennium Park. It was absolutely breath taking. And to top it all off, it started snowing at the park and it was quite a sight to see. It might have been under 30 degrees and snowing, but I had a blast having fun hanging out around Chicago.

Quote of the Week

"Struggles are required in order to survive in life, because in order to stand up, you gotta know what falling down is like." -Unknown

 -Elizabeth Morales

"To me this quote means that you got to go through your ups and downs in order to keep on moving on in life. I can also use this when a friend of mine needs help with any type of situation."

-Julia Vargas (9)

To me, this quote means that you have to go through something in life in order to get right back up because if you don't, then you will not know what it is like to fall down. You have to learn your lesson in order to keep on going on.  At some point in your life, you're going to have your ups and downs but you have to find a way to get through them. I would use this quote to motivate others that it's okay to fail sometimes because no one is perfect -Elizabeth Morales (11)

"It's like in order to like be able to grow or learn in life, you have to have your bad moments in life. It's the only way you'll be able to become smarter and stronger." -Noah Dacanay (9)

"This quote means to me that if you are going through a struggle, it will be over soon. But if it happens again, then you will already know how it feels to 'fall down' and that is required to survive in life" -Britney  (11)

"I think this quote means that everyone fails in life and that it's okay to have struggles because it only makes us stronger. We basically learn from them to make ourselves better and it's a part of life that we have to go through. I would use this quote daily in life because there's always going to be something to knock you down but it's okay to struggle. It can only make myself push through it and become better."

-Jenesis Dacanay (11)

"It means that to be successful in life, you need to be able to fail and learn from your failures. I would use this quote to motivate myself to endure a struggle" -Kyle Borges (11)

News to Know:

"Prom is right around the corner and I think all seniors should go. Ticket prices are $45 and it will be held at the Veterans' Hall. I think it'll be a memorable event for all of since it is one of our last events all together, which is why everyone should attend. Our senior officers have been putting in a great deal of planning into this event and I can't wait to see how it all plays out!"
