This Ain't No Trivial Win

On Sunday, PVHS students competed in the annual Kiwanis Trivia Contest.  One of the student teams from PV--Samantha Neri, David Hernandez, Kayla Alarcon, and Jose Garcia--tied with St. Joe's for first place in the student division.

Though both teams answered 25/50 correctly, the PV kids were robbed in the tie-breaker (the judges randomly chose one of the earlier questions that had already been graded and whichever team had answered THAT ONE correctly won the tie breaker), so technically, they got second place, but we all know: they tied for first.

So, if you see them, throw 'em a crisp high-five.

2017 Air Jordans Due for Release April 1

-Kevon Cabatic

At long last, after waiting 4 years, the Air Jordan 1 "Royal" is going to release this year in 2017 and it's coming back better than ever. This is by far the most hyped release of the year. They are set to release April 1st which is quite odd being April fools day is the same day. Last year's release of the Black/Red colorway really had the sneaker enthusiasts very happy with its success in being more comfortable and the change to a higher quality leather. The Royal Blue Air Jordan 1's will be retailing at a price of $160; however, they will be limited. These have major resale value so even if you don’t like the shoe, you can buy them for $160 and sell them easily for about $350.

For information on updates on where to get them go to  http://sneakernews.com/ and for other releases as well. The retailers that sell them in the Santa Maria area would be the local Footlocker, Champs Sports, and Shoe Palace. You can also get them earlier than the release date online for preorder at http://www.fineline1721.com/ but only for the very expensive price of $400.

In my opinion, I am really hyped for the shoe. I have been wanting to get the Black/Red colorway for awhile. But since it is limited, the resale price for the shoe is expensive for my size. The shoe costs about $350 on average for resale and will also be around that price as well for the Royal Blue colorway.  I will be trying to wait in line for these wherever they will be releasing and I'm hoping to buy more than 1 pair so I can make profit off reselling the 2nd pair so be sure to look out and save that money $$$.

Steve Vargas (12) - "I think they look alright. People can bring them back because of the newer quality and the popularity it’s been getting from celebrities. Yeah they are a popular shoe they just don’t fit my style with what I wear."

Jaezel Garcellano (11) - The shoes are really cool. I like that it pops out and it’s flashy. The price on the shoes is a bit expensive, but it definitely gets the job done with style and looks. I probably would go with the blue colorway just because the blue ones look more expensive and elegant.

Maria Antonio (12) - " I personally don’t like high top shoes. I honestly think that the these shoes wouldn’t be worth buying, but reselling for more money is a great idea and very profitable. Between the red and the blue Jordans I would pick the red ones just because they aren't bright and the colors just go well together.

Keeping “Track” of Some of PV’s Finest Athletes

-Jasmin Chavez, Mona Garcia, & Christina Bulosan

This past Saturday was a huge city track meet, with schools like Pioneer Valley, Santa Maria High School, Righetti, St. Joseph’s, and Orcutt Academy attending.

I am so excited to part of the track team this year. These student athletes are the most dedicated and hard working group I have coached. Many of my runners are setting personal records and I can’t wait to see where this season goes! –Coach Silva

"I'm super excited for my last year because I'm able to practice with runners who constantly push me to my limit and that’s what's making me better. Watching my friends do cross country and compete and practice caught my eye so I decided to try it my sophomore year; I've been doing track for 3 years. Practicing with the team has only showed me that hard work is the only way to get what you want and I constantly apply that to my life, but also the friends that I've become close to, Soto and Manny, are always helping me out with any difficulties I have. Whether it be on or off the track, they push me to be the best I can be. This season I'm excited to be running especially since many of our new runners are so fast and pushing us to compete for a varsity sport, but with these little competitions amongst the team, it shows how much we all are willing to work."

-Carlos Aguilera (12)

"It's crazy because I just had my first meet and it hit me that I'm a senior in his last track season, so that motivates me to try my hardest. With this year, it'll be my fourth year in track. I decided to participate because a lot of my friends were doing it and they encouraged me to join. It has impacted my life because I've gotten to meet more people that love the sport and establish close relationships. Special shout outs to my boys Carlos and Soto! This season, the distance team looks a lot stronger. We've got multiple people breaking 5 minutes on the mile and I'm so proud to be a part of it!" -Manuel "Manny" Bermudez (12)

“I think for my first meet it wasn’t bad, but I can do better as there’s always room for improvement. You always got to strive to be better, and this meet helped me see where I am so I can improve. There is always going to be someone faster, so all you can do is try your hardest and that’s what I’m going to do. I think our team did great at this first city meet. Now we can get faster, and stronger than we are. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season because we have a great team and there are some great people/runners on this team. I can’t wait to see what the season holds.” –Destiny “Trigger” Trigueros (12)

Lorenz Dodson (9) - "The shoes are fire. I like the color combinations of the two it really makes both color pop out, but in my honest opinion I would go with the bred 1s (Black/Red) just because it’s an iconic shoe that started it all and made Michael Jordan and iconic player alongside with his success.
