Academic Awards Night
Last night, teachers, staff and parents came together to acknowledge the achievements of many students who have a 3.8 GPA or higher. These outstanding students worked hard and did their best in school to reach this goal and come out on top. First time recipients get a PV scholar patch for receiving this award for the first time throughout their four years. For many students, this is their first time and it means a lot to them to bring an award home. Family and friends were extremely ecstatic to see theri PV Panther receive an award from the principal and assistant principals. The students participated in a raffle during the ceremony for a chance to win a PV hoodie and three lucky students were randomly picked for the prize. Overall, it was a night of recognition for the students in honor of their hard work. Congratulations Panthers!

"I'm excited to win this award because I worked hard and studied hard on all my tests and homework. I hope my grades stay like this until I graduate in June. My parents are also proud of my accomplishments" -Guadalupe Chavez (12)

Steven Cervantes Moves on to State Finals for FFA Welding
-Jasmin Chavez
Pioneer Valley is full of many academic students who have done many great things, and one of them is Steven Cervantes. He’s been a star in FFA since his sophomore year. Steven lost his mother at a young age, but this brought him closer to his father. Steven explains, “I’m close to my dad, I would go over to his shop after school and he would make things with his bare hands and it was just amazing.” Inspired by his father, Steven is involved in welding, metal fabrication, and agriculture mechanics. He’s made things like a porta potty trailer, a barbecue pit, seed feeders, and straw berry carts.

Recently Steven won the FFA Proficiency Award for the South Coast Region in Ag Mechanics Placement. This is one of the highest awards you can earn in FFA. Steven is going on to the State Finals in April to compete for State Champion and will be the only person competing from Pioneer Valley for welding.

After high school Steven is planning on attending a community college for two years and then transferring to Cal Poly and majoring in business and maybe even becoming an Ag teacher. He’s earned many achievements and our FFA Club will be cheering him on.
Daniel Geiger at Teen Star This Weekend
Recently the seventh annual Santa Barbara County Teen Star held auditions here at our PVHS campus to look for the next teen star. Teen star is a singing competition among students in the county of Santa Barbara. Each student performed a short piece a cappella in front of four judges in the choir room. PVHS Panther, Daniel Geiger, made it into the final ten and will be moving onto the Teen Star Finale Showcase. After not getting a spot in the finale last year, Daniel Geiger worked harder this year and impressed the judges with his amazing vocals. The finale will be held at The Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara on February 25 at 7 P.M. We wish Daniel Geiger the best of luck in the finale.

"It's very exciting, but mainly nerve-wracking, that's the right word for what I'm feeling at the moment. It's a lot of things. This is my second time auditioning for Teen Star. I'm doing two songs for the finale. ‘Don't You Worry About a Thing’ by Stevie Wonder is my first song and my second song is ‘The Impossible Dream.’" -Daniel Geiger (11)
-Araceli Flores
"This is my first time winning this award and I'm excited. Especially since I didn’t come to this school until my junior year and they didn’t have this award at my school in Las Vegas." -Adonay Moreno (12)
