Black History Month Celebrated at PV
Last Friday, PV’s BSU hosted a Black History Assembly and were grateful to have a guest speaker named Gloria Carter Dickinson from Sunflower, Mississippi deliver an important message about perseverance, work towards your goals, and being able to achieve anything you want in life, so long as you work for it.
She told us Panthers about her story growing up in the segregation period. She had 6 brothers and sisters and was one of the first people to start the integration between blacks and whites in Mississippi. She spoke about her courageous fight and the bravery displayed by her family. She told us about the 5 years of her family being ridiculed by both the whites and the blacks for fighting for their right to be properly educated and for equality. Her story was truly admirable and inspirational.
"it was hard, there was certain things we couldn’t do we couldn’t use the same bathrooms, or drink out of the same water fountains, and education was not equal so we decided to start a movement and stand up for our rights" -Gloria Carter Dickinson

Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation Donates Piano
On Valentine's Day, a piano was generously donated to Mr. Feher's classroom by the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation. They donated pianos to several schools in our area. Kai Tepper who works at the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation hooked Mr. Feher up with the beautiful piano. The piano donated will be put to great use in furthering the education of Mr. Feher's students.
"I teach senior AP English and we learn about different literary time periods. I thought it would be a really good idea to play pieces from each era to understand it better during that time. We study art, laws, and government from that time period. Another thing we studied in my class is music from that time period. I thought it would be the raddest to just be able to play some Handel from the Elizabethan Era and then during the Romantic Era I could play some Chopin or something like that so people would get it. That’s how I plan on using it." -Mr. Feher

"Mr. Feher's decision to bring in a piano has probably been one of the most innovative things any teacher has done on campus. By bringing in a musical instrument to the classroom, he has opened up the doors to so many new opportunities for students. Music can have such a deep impact on students, and it will definitely make his classroom one of the most unique at Pioneer Valley." -Isaiah Guerrero (12) (Piano Player)

It's Impastable Not to Eat at Trattoria Uliveto
Linguini Crostacei
Looking for authentic Italian cuisine or a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion? I suggest Trattoria Uliveto located at 285 S. Broadway, Old Orcutt. The restaurant's decor creates a cozy and elegant atmosphere which is paired with a warm and comfortable color scheme, dim lighting, and soothing music in the background. They also have a well-set up patio with lovely lit up LED lights entangled with the trees.
The atmosphere is welcoming and the servers were pleasant. The chef, Alfonso Curti, has assembled an outstanding menu of fine Italian dishes, an extensive wine list, and original desserts. The restaurant also offers catering services for wedding receptions and banquets. Trattoria Uliveto is open for lunch as well as dinner. The menu is a bit pricey; however, the food is delicious and the flavors linger, leaving one's taste buds thrilled with pure satisfaction. The restaurant serves bread with a sauce base that consists of olive oil and a hint of balsamic sauces on top.

I personally had the Linguini Crostacei. The dish's sauces were light with a warm with a tomato basil perfume aroma and it included as followed: mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari, garlic, olive oil basil, white wine, and tomato filet priced at $24. It truly exceeded my expectations and I will gladly be coming back with friends and family.
