Popular on Netflix: Bates Motel

-Crystal Barriga

Bates Motel is a dark, suspenseful series that will have you totally hooked and you’ll be binge watching before you know it! When the series first premiered on March 18, 2013, it broke rating records for an original drama series on A&E, drawing a total of 3.04 million viewers!  The show consists of 4 seasons; one of them was recently added to Netflix. Main characters, Vera Farmiga (Norma Bates) and Freddie Highmore (Norman Bates) do an incredible job acting out their characters. The series is focused on Norman Bates, he is a very strange and unusual teen. No one seems to know exactly what goes on in his mind. Bates Motel is a prequel to the 1960 film “Psycho.” Most people hate spoilers, so before I spill out any details I suggest you go and check it out!

"Bates Motel is a crazy show. The main character Norman and his mom Norma are both a bit crazy. If you like confusing and mysterious shows, this is the perfect show for you!"

-Jacky Moreno (11)

"I think Bates Motel is a nice adaption of the classic movie "Psycho" and it paints the Bates Motel in a clearer light. The show does a good job on interpreting the classic movie. So far, I have only seen the first season, but it's pretty good."

-Julio Cabatan (12)

"I've only watched season one of Bates Motel, but so far it's a really captivating show. My favorite part of the show was when Norman had an infatuation with his mother Norma. Norman is definitely my favorite character. His personality is really off the charts. I definitely recommend this show! Go watch it now!" -Isis Diaz (11)

I would definitely recommend this show. I'm really enjoying it so far even though I've only seen the first season. The show is really twisted, dramatic and intense which is something I'm into. I am looking forward to watching the following 4 seasons.

What's Up with Ms. Starowicz?

-Brendan Lopez

Ms. Starowicz is here temporarily in place of Ms. Walters. Ms. Walters suffered from a stroke but is recovering at a good rate. Until Ms. Walters returns in March, Ms. Starowicz is our Activities Director. As Panthers we must give Ms. Starowicz the same respect as we gave Ms. Walters. Ms. Starowicz is definitely qualified for the job and will surely give all of us a great time at our events.

"Right before Christmas break Ms. Walters suffered a stroke a day after the all school BBQ. She called 911 from home and was transferred to Marian but then was transferred to Cottage Hospital. She spent 15 days there and was released back home. The staff has done a really good job of supporting her in terms of visiting her, because all of her family is out of state. The staff really reached out and delivered meals to her house. Since then Ms. Walter's recovering has been really great and is doing well. She's scheduled to come back March 6th. In the meantime, Ms. Starowicz is a former art teacher here at PV. She was one of our founding Panthers. She was also our cheerleading advisor for a lot of years and used to be an activities director at Righetti when she taught there. Were just so fortunate to have someone who is friends with Ms. Walters and who can fill in for her in her time of absence. We just hoping Ms. Walter's recovery continues and it stays steady." -Mrs. Herrera

"I was a teacher's aid first for special education then I got my credential at UCSB which allowed me to teach art. I taught art at Righetti and Santa Maria. I was the yearbook advisor at Santa Maria and the journalism advisor at Righetti at the same time. I would drive during lunch to go to both schools. I became full time at Righetti in the late 80's. Then I had art, journalism, and was the cheer advisor. I was the cheer advisor for over 20 years there and I was 8 years as activities director. When it was time to open up Pioneer Valley my mentor and former art teacher who I got to work with suggested that I need a new challenge and to move over here and build a new art department so that what I did. I was one of the founding teachers of the school and was the first and only art teacher at the time. I also started the cheer program at the same time. Now I’m here helping out using my activities director experience, student government experience, and leadership skills. It’s a nice change being an activities director here at Pioneer Valley. You get to be a part of the planning and building of things. You get to be behind the scenes, set everything up and can also help and nurture the kids from start to finish. I just make sure everything runs smooth and they get their job done and do it well. If it works and when it works well then the students will get the compliments and that’s what it’s all about. It’s not about me it’s about the students and them learning how to do things and how to organize, because it’s a new generation.” –Ms. Starowicz (pictured above left, slightly outdated)

“School has been very different since she’s been out sick. We miss her laughter, her spunk, and her accent. We’re so glad that God has given her another outlook on life. We’re excited for the days she comes back in March and can’t wait.” –Monica Raygoza
