Athlete of the Week Nominees
-Tina Bulosan
Every Monday, The Northern Santa Barbara County Athletic Round Table announces the nominees for their Athlete of the Week award, giving recognition to student athletes from schools all over Central Coast. Nominees are announced every Monday morning, they are excused from afternoon classes and driven to the Giovani’s pizza parlor in Orcutt where they are treated to pizza and recognized for their dedication and hard work towards their sport. This week, 4 of our Panthers were nominated but the Athlete of the Week honors went to Righetti High girls’ basketball player Zane Sheckherd and Hancock mens’ basketball player Marcellus Garrick. Hard work always pays off. Congratulations Panthers! Check in next week to see which athletes of ours gets the spotlight!
"I do Cross Country, wrestling, and track because I like to stay fit throughout the year. These sports set the foundation of my character. Participating in extracurricular activities have helped me improve my social skills to be around individuals. I believe I was nominated for this award because I have worked hard for the past 3 years to represent Pioneer Valley has a student athlete."
-Cherry Inay (12, right)
"I play sweeper. I have a passion for the sport because I have been playing soccer since I was just a little boy. When I play, it helps me lose concentration of any problems I have. I think we nominated for Athlete of the Week because we try our best to motivate our teammates and we do not give up on our team."
-Mark Vargas (12, right)
"I play center midfield. Soccer has been a major part of my life for years now. Ever since I was little, I enjoyed playing. As they years passed, my passion for soccer only grew. Along with the satisfaction I receive by playing, I've also been able to learn many life lessons through the sport. Soccer definitely characterized who I am. As team captains, Mark and I were awarded for our hard work and motivation. We always push ourselves and teammates to play at their highest potential. Because of our commitment to the team, we were nominated for the award."
