Magni Places 12th at Visegrip, Moves on to Russia

Mr. Magni recently competed in an international strength contest this past January 7th and 8th at the Los Angeles center. The 2017 LA Fit Expo Visegrip Viking Contest was actually a collection of four events: the Rolling Thunder World Championships, Axle Deadlift, Silver Bullet, and the the Viking Hammer Hold. The global match attracted competitors from as far away as: Norway, Sweden, Russia, England, Latvia, and of course, the USA. A few of the contestants were former Olympians or “The World’s Strongest Man.”

The first event was the Rolling Thunder World Championships in which the contestants pick up a large amount of weight using only one hand and a large 2” diameter grip handle. Mr.Magni's first attempt was 176, second attempt was 187, third attempt was 198 and his fourth attempt was 209 and it was a PR attempt. He got 10th place in the World Championships.

For the Axle Deadlift (2” diameter grip bar) the opening weight was 374. He had missed this weight for the last 12 times that he has tried it...and he finally accomplished it!!

For the Silver Bullet the objective was to hang on and he got 18.53 seconds.

The Viking Hammer Hold required contestants to hold a 33 pound hammer in each hand at arm's length .Last year he did it in 10.5 seconds and this year he got 19.63 seconds, New PR!

Overall in the Visegrip Viking Contest he finished in 12th place. As a result Mr.Magni got called to compete in Russia at the World Arm lifting Championships! The event is held in St.Petersburg Russia on May 12-14.He is so excited to go he cannot wait to go. Congratulations Mr. Magni!!!

Remembering The Paw Print

Before the birth of the Panther Tales 1 ½ years ago, this school had a different, more traditional form of Journalism: The Paw Print was the school's original newspaper, and it started in 2004. In charge of the Journalism class was the impeccable Mr. Feher.

"Well, back then the principle was Ms. Ringstead, and I used to work at Righetti. She told me the only way I could come work at PV was if I taught Journalism, and it seemed like a good deal to me," said Feher. According to Feher, the school wanted to take a more modern approach to news delivery and thus created The Panther Tales; leaving his legacy to the amazing Mr. Howard.

The Paw Print was a really fun class where Mr. Feher would teach the class about stuff like writing, photography, research, law, history, ad design, and just lots of really interesting material.

Looking on at his bound collection of “Paw Prints” Feher said, "My dad made the book. The gold letters are actually real gold, and he makes a living making really good books."

Kyrie 3

As we transition into the New Year we are introduced to the latest shoe from Kyrie Irving, the Kyrie 3's. The shoe is designed to fit the needs of many playmaker athletes like Kyrie. Its most unique feature is the individual traction pads on the bottom of the shoe. These are made to help the athlete have more forefoot traction and make sharp cuts in the game. The other feature is the Nike Zoom Air unit that responds to every step enhancing it to the athlete’s full performance and playstyle. The shoe overall is cool and very unique. The color of the traction pads make the shoe pop out and the plastic spikes on the sides of the shoe give it a different style.

This sneaker is great as a performing shoe and also off the court as a normal wear. I visited the Footlocker in the Santa Maria Mall and they were selling for about $120. From my experience, they were extremely comfortable and very good looking. They come in 2 colorways the "Warning" and the original black colorway. Overall they are very comfortable and the support they have is surprisingly great. The shoe is an overall great deal and I would recommend it to any sneaker enthusiast weather you're a sneaker collector or an athlete.

"The shoe has very nice detailing. I like the way they put effort into the sole of the shoe and how they added the traction pads at the bottom. I definitely would get these shoes but in the black colorway; I feel that those are more my style.  I've actually tried these shoes on myself and they're pretty comfortable and unique.'

-Aaliyah Atondo (10)

"They're nice. I would definitely buy them because of the style of the shoe and the person who created it wears them. Kyrie Irving is a very solid player in general and is probably top 8 in the NBA. I will be checking them out in Footlocker soon." - Joseph Ruiz (11)

"This is alright. I don’t think it is my style but they are cool. I probably wouldn’t buy them just because I'm not into playing basketball. I am more of a Vans type of person. Overall, they are really nice but I just wouldn’t wear them." - Albert Rodriguez (12)
